The 5th running of the Irish St Leger was held on Wednesday 24th September 1919 over 1 mile 6 furlongs of The Curragh. The winner was owned by Mr A Lowry, trained by Hugh Powney and ridden by Tommy Burns. A purse of £2000 allowed for the second to receive 100 sovereigns and the third 50 sovereigns. The winner won by 12 lengths in 3 minutes 9.4 seconds, with 1/2 length between second and third.

  Betting Sweet Acre, the outsider of five, cut out the early running from Kilkerley and Cheap Popularity, an order which was maintained for the first half mile. Kilkerley then took over and quickened the pace, from Ballyeaston and Cheap Popularity. Four furlongs from home Ballyeaston surged to the front but was headed within a furlong by Cheap Popularity who began to draw clear, winning by an easy 12 lengths, with just half a length separating Kilkerley and Ballyeaston.
